So its that time of year again, when the ladies get restless. The fight began and ended with Trinity being removed as Alpha and Sarge coming out as the new alpha. Chomp was collateral damage. She got pretty beat up, and was banished from the pack for a few weeks. She called to her pack mates, but for the most they let her alone to heal. Trinity would check on her from time to time, but she too stayed with the pack more than not.
Last week, Trinity took back her position as Alpha. The girls are
getting along again. Trinity is back in the saddle and has placed Sarge on notice. Sarge is paying due respect to her ladyship. Chomp is healing, but has joined the pack. She is
no longer staying alone at the bottom of the hill crying softly and wishing for company and a shoulder to lay her sore head on.
Hormones run high and tempers get short this time of year. But I think we are through the worst.

Lakota
To some they are just animals behind a fence. To others they are a mystery worth exploring. To us they are a nation unto themselves. They do not command respect, but I give it without question. If you could see with your heart, you would learn to live. If you could hear with your soul you would understand the knowledge in their eyes.
Lakota, heavy with this life's scares you lived with your sisters. You listened to their quarrels and their fears and you gave them your love and understanding. They picked on you often, and yet you gave them your love unconditionally. Your sisters miss you. We miss you, and we are sad when we walk past your home and you are not there to great us with your shy self.
It takes me days, weeks sometimes months to say farewell, and I am sorry this farewell comes on the heals of another. To those that rescue, you know our pain. To those that love animals, you know our pain. To those that live with animals, you know our pain. You also know our joys and repose. We are bound together....
Lakota, I know in my heart you run with the rest of your pack. I believe that you are happy and free of these earthly bonds that hold us grounded and keep us form joining you.
Bless us as we wait our turn and do the best we can as we move along life's journey. We shall not seek to hurry to the bridge yet sometimes as we sleep we are shown glimmers of color and yearn to feel the warmth in good time. We will see you again my sister.
Our dearest Lakato died December 26, 2013.

Truly a highlight
Just took the 10 am tour. Truly a highlight in my life and I have a new passion. I will adopt a wolf. Denny was super and answered all of our questions. I love all of the wolves.

Billy our Billy, 2006 to 10/21/2013
Its fundamental really uttering a farewell. Not just by written word, language is not needed to share the meaning of loss. Ohhhhh me. I sit in silence and watch the leaves blow from the trees falling lightly and almost with out sound to the ground. They skitter along the grass and disappear in the field. I think that is our Billy. Only just the other day he was bouncing about greeting our guests with his happy shy spirit. Always a glint in his eye as he watched us. I imagine him still doing that behind the trees. He was always watching. A bounce at the fence and down his head would go to the ground, playfully inviting your soul to smile. How could you help but smile. He was a beauty. Seven years he grew with us. A knight in an ever silver vest of shimmering fur. Oh Billy my Billy, our Billy...Our Billy died just a few days ago. Without warning he left us behind to follow the leaves into the field. How perfect for him to pick a cool fall day. A favorite time of year indeed. The sky clouded and cried with us that following weekend. Hard and without imperfection the darkened sky pushed the storm away and the moon showed itself and Billy was free. We bow our heads and whisper our farewells. I love you Billy, we all love you.....
Only 7 his necropsy showed he had a twist in the intestine at the rout of the messentery. He went into shock and slipped away in his sleep.

Liberty, a farewell...
We are not given a map or time table. No instruction manual comes with our birth. If we are blessed with elders, family and community we will have guidance, but we must make our own way through life trusting in that future. Pain is but a hopefully small part of that journey. We say hello and good bye to many in our journey. Each life touched by the many around; moving in and out of the others space and time.
Liberty came into our lives and into our hearts before he even moved to our sanctuary. His first months blemished by ill fate. But community rallied for this young life and he found a safe home. He found love and acceptance. A new family to call his own. He rejoiced in this union and played heartily with his new companions; Sky, Jasper and Rogue. He even learned that there are some humans worthy of his trust.
June 12, 2013, something happened during play. A poor placed tug at the head or a brain aneurysm. We don't know. They were always playing and chasing, pouncing and bouncing. We are left standing with more questions then answers. Our precious Liberty died that day. We do know it was quick and he had no pain as we were there within moments of his last howl. A strange howl, that sent Darin running up to his pack and back down again for his truck and help. I sat with him in the back of the truck as Darin sped swiftly toward the vets office. "Stay with me Liberty, stay with me..." As we turned into the parking lot, Liberty took three short quick gasps of air and was gone. Already in shock his body prevented him from feeling as his spirit slipped away leaving behind his earth bound shell. Now we move forward still so many questions and still no answers. Just the bliss of our memories and the pain of the moment. Farewell Liberty, thank you for this past year. You will always be remembered.

Enclosure UP
Wow, can you believe it is November already. Time moves on way to fast for me. The new enclosure for Liberty, Sky, Jasper and hopefully Rogue is up. If weather will cooperate we will get the dig fence done and covered, put in a little house for them and release them into their new home.As I type Brian is up there completing the installation of the did fence. Darin needs tracks for his skid loader so he can move around without sliding down the hill. Always something, isn't it? :)
Thank you to Darin, Matt (new volunteer!), and Brian for working so hard to get that done. Thank you to everyone of our gracious and caring members and donors for the funds to make this possible in such a short time.
Without your donations and visits to the sanctuary this would NOT be possible. Well I gotta go, my guests should be here soon to eat breakfast at the Speedwell Forge B&B. Then we have a tour at 10am today and I am running register.
I will get back to you soon with an update. Howl for now! D
